Bill Wynn

Director – Heritage High

Bill Wynn has been the band director at Heritage High School since 2020. Mr. Wynn came to Heritage High after 15 years at Heritage Middle School and four years at Tyner Academy in Chattanooga, TN. He received his Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, his Master of Music in Instrumental Conducting degree from the American Band College of Sam Houston State University, and has completed all coursework toward a Doctorate in Music Education from the University of Georgia. Mr. Wynn was the 2012-2013 Heritage Middle School Teacher of the Year.

Before moving to Chattanooga, Mr. Wynn was an active musician in the Chicago area, performing as a bass trombonist with the Ravinia Festival Orchestra, the Elmhurst Symphony, the DuPage Symphony, the Southwest Suburban Symphony and the Chicago Brass Choir and as a baritone vocalist with the Chicago Symphony Chorus, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, His Majesty’s Clerkes, and the Ravinia Festival Chorus. In Chicago, Mr. Wynn also taught brass lessons, master classes, and music theory at the MERIT School of Music. In Chattanooga, Mr. Wynn has served as the low brass instructor at Cadek Conservatory of Music in Chattanooga, TN, and performed with the Chattanooga Symphony, Enigma Tuba Quartet, and the Chattanooga Trombone Quartet. Members of Mr. Wynn’s brass studio have been top All-State members in six states, principal players in the Chicago, Chattanooga, and St. Louis Youth Symphonies, and members of the Governor’s Honors Programs in Georgia, Tennessee, and Illinois.

Mr. Wynn and his wife Jill reside in Ringgold.


Preston Miller

Director – Heritage Middle

Preston Miller serves as the Director of Middle School Bands at Heritage Middle School and Assistant Director of Bands at Heritage High School in Ringgold, Georgia. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from the University of North Georgia and completed his Master of Music Education through the American Band College at Central Washington University in Summer 2025. During his graduate studies, he had the opportunity to work with renowned composers Johan de Meij, Frank Ticheli, Brian Balmages, John Mackey, Richard Saucedo, and Carol Brittin Chambers, and to perform under the baton of Robert Ponto, Cynthia Johnston Turner, Paula Crider, and Rebecca Phillips. He also performed alongside Patrick Sheridan and with Gordon Goodwin’s Little Phat Band as part of his graduate experience.

As an undergraduate, one of his most notable accomplishments was earning the position of principal saxophonist in the Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, and Jazz Band, as well as co-founding the Gold Talon Saxophone Quartet, which was invited to perform at several prestigious conferences.

In addition to his performance accomplishments, Mr. Miller has distinguished himself as an educator and clinician. He has served as a clinician for concert bands, presented masterclasses, worked as a visual and musical technician for marching bands, and maintained a private woodwind studio supporting programs in Catoosa, Hall, Dawson, and Jackson counties. He has also presented at the Research on Contemporary Composers Conference on Women in Music.

Mr. Miller is a passionate advocate for music education and believes strongly in the transformative power of music in the lives of young people. He is committed to providing his students with the highest quality music education possible and is dedicated to their success both in and out of the classroom.

Outside of his work as an educator, Mr. Miller enjoys traveling, cooking, and exploring new cuisines from around the world with his wife, Jada, whom he married in September 2017.


Colin James

Percussion Instructor

Colin James has been the percussion instructor at Heritage High School since graduating from Jacksonville State University in 2017. At JSU he obtained a music degree with a concentration in percussion and was a 5 year member of the Marching Southerners. He has been a private percussion teacher in the Chattanooga area for nearly a decade and has 4 years of experience teaching on the Winter Guard International (Chattanooga Independent) and Georgia Indoor Percussion (Ringgold Indoor Percussion) circuits. Colin currently performs as a professional drummer in the Chattanooga area and beyond, playing in various recording and performance projects. He is a founding member and drummer for the touring band Dolphin Group, a percussionist in the Southeastern Percussion Group and drummer for Sweet Georgia Sound. In his spare time Colin enjoys watching Liverpool FC, auto racing, traveling, amateur birding, playing golf and seeing as many concerts as he can.
